List the four bases that can be found in the nucleotides of DNA. In what way are they divided into two groups?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Four bases in DNA nucleotides-

A- Adenine

G- Guanine

T - Thymine

C - Cytosine

They are grouped in two - purines and pyrimidines.

Purines include two base (A and G)

Pyrimidines include (T , C and U in RNA ).

The basis of this classification is how many membered ring present , how many Nitrogen atoms present .

Purines have 2 ring structure , one ring is 6 membered and other is 5 membered. And they have 4 nitrogen atoms.

Pyrimidines have single ring structure. They are 6 membered . And have 2 nitrogen atoms.
