Ans:
DNA Structure
A. The components of a nucleotide:
- There are three components of a nucleotide.
1. Deoxyribose: It is a pentose sugar with five carbon atoms.
2. Nitrogenous bases: There are two types of nitrogenous bases as purines and pyrimidines.( Adenine, Thymine, Cytosine, Guanine )
3. Phosphate: Phosphate groups are alternate with deoxyribose sugar.
B. The bases in DNA:
- Pyrimidines of DNA are cytosine and thymine.
- The purines are adenine and guanine.
- Thus, there are four bases in DNA Adenine (A), Guanine (G) , Cytosine(C) and Thymine(T).
