In electrophoresis, can multiple pure bands be indicative of a single protein with several domains? I know it can be indicative of different subunits of a complex.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

In gel electrophoresis proteins can be separated in a mixture of proteins of different sizes or can separate the subunits of a tertiary protein.

Case 1)

If you run a single pure protein without denaturation then you will get a single band.

Or

Run different sizes of different proteins can get different bands based on their size.

Case 2).

If you want to know how many subunits of a tertiary protein then you can add denaturation substance Eg SDS, to the protein and run the gel then you get different bands.

I hope you got the answer, give thumbs up

Protein misfolding can be an aspect of several different human disorders, including cystic fibrosis, Alzheimer's disease, and atherosclerosis. Many times, the misfolded protein is a membrane protein. In fact, a type of diabetes insipidus results from a mutation in the G-protein-coupled vasopressin 2 receptor that prevents the protein from making it to the cell membrane! Describe how this type of receptor would normally get targeted to the membrane (from the beginning of translation) and then propose one mechanism by which...

However, one brand that I cannot live without is Ocean Potion sunscreen. I am a freak about putting sunscreen on everyday and I have used this brand for years.
