Describe how hypoxic conditions can develop in ecosystems such as the Chesapeake Bay.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Hypoxia is defined as the condition with the low oxygen concentration.

Without even knowing the importance of oysters in the Ecosystem the people in the Chesapeake bay started over exploitation of the oysters.

Earlier the oysters worked as the filters of the water.

But due to their depletion the phyoplanktons diee nd got settled on the bottom of the bay and got decomposed by the bacteria which robs the oxygen of water as the growth of certain algae increases diw to excess of organic content and lead to the decrease in dissolved oxygen the water leading to the formation of Dead Zones and the organisms which approach these Dead Zones ultimately die.
