An NTC thermistor with a resistance of 10 kΩ at 25°C has a. B = 3799 K for the B model.
b.   a=2.1085×10−3,   b=7.9792×10−5 and   c=6.5351×10−7 for the SH model. When in contact with an object, the thermistor has a resistance of 5 kΩ. Calculate and compare the temperatures predicted by the two calibration models.

Answer #1

(a) B(T1/T2) = (T2 * T1) / (T2 - T1) * ln(R1 / R2)

T2 = 25 + 273 K = 298 K , R2 = 10k , R1 = 5k , B=3799K

3799 = (298*T1)/ (298 - T1) * ln(1/2)

3799 / -0.693 =  (298*T1)/ (298 - T1)

-5482(298-T1) = 298*T1

1633636= 5184T1

T1 = 315.13 K (approx) = 42c.

(B) 1 / T = A + B ln(R) + C ln(R)3 = 2.1085* 10-3 + 7.9792*10-5 ln(5000) + 6.5351*10-7 ln(5000)3 = 0.0021 + 8.517*7.9792/100000 + 6.5351*(8.517)3/10000000

1/T = 0.0021 + 0.000679 + 0.0004037 = 0.0031827

T = 314.19 K

T = 41c.

Monitoring of temperatures in electronic devices is often accomplished using thermistors, circuit elements whose resistance varies rapidly with temperature. The actual circuits are more complicated than the one at right, but it illustrates the basic principle. As the temperature of the thermistor rises, its resistance drops; a small rise in temperature leads to a large drop in resistance. At 25 °C, the thermistor has a resistance of 3.0 k Ω. As the temperature rises to 60 °C, the resistance drops...

Three objects (A, B, and C) are originally far apart. Object B is brought into contact with object A, and no heat flows from one object to the other. Then, object B is moved away from object A and brought into contact with object C. When object B touches object C, the temperature of the two objects changes. Objects B and C eventually reach thermal equilibrium. (a) Give as much information as you can about the original temperatures of the...

An aluminum transmission line with a diameter of 20 mm has an electrical resistance of R'elec= 2.636 × 10-4 Ω/m and carries a current of 700 A. The line is subjected to frequent and severe cross winds, increasing the probability of contact between adjacent lines, thereby causing sparks and creating a potential fire hazard for nearby vegetation. The remedy is to insulate the line, but with the adverse effect of increasing the conductor operating temperature. (a) Calculate the conductor temperature...
