What is the specific source of insulin
Insulin is a peptide hormone produced by beta cells of the Pancreatic islets. It promote the absorption of glucose from the blood into fat, liver, and skeletal muscle cells. Glucose is stored in the form of glycogen.
Naturally insulin is produced by beta cells of pancreatic islets, if beta cells are destroyed then insulin can no longer be synthesized or be secreted into the blood. This result in diabetes mellitus, which characterized by high blood glucose concentration.
And then artificial source of insulin is used - Animal insulin is taken from the pancreas of animals, usually pigs (pork insulin) and cows (beef insulin).
