4. B) What type of cell division is responsible for the formation of spores?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

A. 1. Bryophytes have life cycle related to alternation of generation. Each life cycle is completed by two phases gametophyte and sporophyte.

2. Gametophyte is the gamete bearing plant body and sporophyte is spore bearing plant body.

3. These two phases occur in life cycle of bryophytes alternate with each other.

4. In bryophyte gametophyte is dominant that longer lived that is produce gamete like sperm and and gamete is haploid. Sporophyte produce spores and eggs.

5. When egg and sperm fuse to form diploid zygote. Zygote grows into sporophyte and produce haploid sopres by meiosis.

6. Gametophyte and sporophyte are depend on each other hence known as alternation of generation.

B. For formation of spore meiosis is responsible. Meiosis is type of cell division and it is also known as reduction division because it is reduced or half the chromosome number.
