The difference between activating and inhibiting Fc receptors is the _____ vs _______ in their cytoplasmic tails. Describe a example of FCRs in cells

Homework Answers

Answer #1

The difference between activating and inhibiting Fc receptors is the ITAM vs ITIM in their cytolasmic tails.
ITAM - Immuno receptor tyrosine activation motif
ITIM - Immuno receptor tyrosine based inhibition motif

Example of FCR in cells :

Fc receptors are expressed in many cell types and gets activated when there is an antigen-antibody reaction. For example, if suppose an antibody Ig G recognizes an antigen and binds to it to form antigen-antibody complex, the Fc receptors recognize the antibody bound to the antigen. When the Fc receptors bind to the antibody-antigen compelx, they help in activating a series of other immune cells that lead to a signalling pathway that cuases degranulation and release of several cytokines that would help in eliminating the antigen from the cell.
