Name 4 factors that determine specificity. (referring to Immunlogy)
Factors determining specificity :
Specificity refers to when antigens attaches specifically to an antibody because of the "fit" between the antigenic determinant on the surface as well as the receptor , which is an antigen binding site on the antibody.
Thus specificity can be :-
a. Species specific : Human antigens or animal antigens with the exception of heterophile antigens which are present in more than one species.
b. Organ specific : Every organ has its specific antigens.
c. Isospecificity : These antigens differentiate members of same species , example- HLA and blood group antigens.
d. Autospecificity: Autologous or self-antigens are ordinarily non antigenic but certain self-antigens are present in closed system and are not accesible to to immune apparatus and these are known as sequestrated antigens. example - lens protein, sperm.
