(a) Name the two types of solid-solution alloys and (b) explain what the important factors are that determine solubility and why.
There are two types of solid-solution alloys
1) Substitutional Solid Solution Alloy - In this structure, solute atoms occupy the regular position of the solvent
2) Interstitial Solid Solution Alloy - in this structure, solute atoms occupy the interstitial position in the solvent lattice
Important Factors that determine solubility
1) Size difference between the alloy metal with the parent metal, this will determine the size and regularity of the structure
2) Difference between the electronegativity of the two solvent and solute material
3) Crystal strucure must be same for both solute and solvent in order to have high solubility
