What factors influence an enzyme’s substrate specificity?
Factors influence the enzyme's substrate specificity are the following -
1. The shape of substrate. As we know the shape of substrate is very important in specificity for proper formation of enzyme-substrate (E-S) complex. Due to this factor the molecules having similar shape like substrate is play role in compititive inhibitors.
2. Size of the substrate - the size of substrate is also important ilke shape . Wrong size of substrate is offer resistance in forming of E-S complex.
3. The amino acids residue in active site of enzyme - As in formation of E-S complex Active site of enzyme react with the substrate. The specific residue at specific position in active site offer the specificity of substrate that can attach with the enzyme.
