I disolved the shell of an egg and placed it into an empty beaker for a control in an experiment. Why did osmosis not occur?
As we know osmosis is the process of flow of water from one place to another in the direction from higher concentration of water or low concentration of solutes to lower concentration of water or higher concentration of solutes through a semi- permeable membrane.
However, in the present case study , shell less egg is placed in an empty beaker without any solution either hypertonic, isotonic or hypotonic. As their is only air outside the egg membrane but no water or solution. Therefore no osmosis will occur as semi permeable membrane passes only water not air or any solute which not present here.
