If a silver wire is placed in a beaker containing 1 M Cu(NO3)2, what will happen and why?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

answer : no reaction takes place

explanation:

Ag electode potential = +0.80 V

Cu electronpotential = +0.34 V

favourable reaction in between these two

oxidation at anode : Cu --------------> Cu+2 +2e-

reduction at cathode : 2 Ag+ +2e- --------------> 2Ag

Copper electrode potential is lesser than Ag . here we have Cu+2 and Ag . so there is no reaction between these two nothing will happens.

reverse is possible . that means Cu is placed in AgNO3 , Ag will deposit
