1. The Star-nosed mole are small mammals (all mammals have lungs and breath air) that are excellent swimmers and frequently seek out prey underwater. Would you expect them to eventually evolve gills? Why or why not?
The star nosed mole doesn't evolve gills for breathing but they are much able to breathe underwater by using their star shaped nose. These small mammals produces the bubbles inside the water bodies and then re-inhale these bubbles. This re inhaling gives the oxygen to the the mole and also helps to predict the location of its prey as the again reaching bubbles of gases contains the smell of their pray which can be detected by the highly sensitive star shaped nose of the mole.
