Explain quantitativelyor qualitatively why during controlled drug delivery, the rate of drug release has to be constant (i.e., the release rate should not be increasedor decreasedover time).

Answer #1

With the aim of prevention of dose dumping, and in order to maintain the release of drug at a desired rate, extended release dosage form is used. In order to assess the effect of extended release dosage form, the cumulative percentage of drug released from an extended release dosage form at different time interval is evaluated for in vitro drug release. The aim is to deliver the drug a t a constant rate for an extended period of time. This phenomenon decreases dose frequency and has better patient compliance.

Show for stationary eigenstates of the Schrodinger equation in one dimension. Qualitatively explain why the eigenfunction ψ(x) is smooth, i.e., its first derivative dψ/dx is continuous, even when the potential V (x) has a discontinuity (a finite jump). Hints: use the delta function

A patch has been designed to release a drug to treat airsickness. The patch is applied an hour before the flight and is worn until the flight is over. The patch is a cylindrical disk 3-mm thick with a radius of 1 cm. The drug is initially at a concentration of 50 mM. Assume that the concentration in the adjacent skin is much less than the concentration in the patch. The diffusion coefficient of the drug in the patch is...

Erythromycin is a drug that has been proposed to possibly lower the risk of premature delivery. A related area of interest is its association with the incidence of side effects during pregnancy. Assume that 30% of all pregnant women complain of nausea between the 24th and 28th week of pregnancy. Furthermore, suppose that of 178 women who are taking erythromycin regularly during this period, 63 complain of nausea. Find the p-value for testing the hypothesis that incidence rate of nausea...

Pulmonary drug delivery devices are designed to produce particles of what size (what range of particle diameters)? List the 3 drug clearance mechanisms in the lung. In what region does each predominate and what cell types are involved in each mechanism? Why is it important to breath slowly and deeply when using a pressurized metered dose inhaler? Your answer should include comments on particle velocity, mechanisms of particle deposition, and region of particle deposition. Despite the above explanation for #9,...

Deli Delivery delivers sandwiches to neighboring office buildings during lunch time in New York City. The deli claims that the sandwiches will be delivered within 20 minutes from receiving the order. Given the hectic schedules of their customers, consistent delivery time is a must. The owner has decided that the standard deviation of delivery times should be at most 5 minutes. To determine how consistently the sandwiches are being delivered, the manager randomly selects 25 orders and measures the time...
