Answer #1

a. Poly(D,L Lactide) also known as PDLA is amorphous in nature, whereas Poly (L lactide) also known as PLLA is more crystalline. The degree of crystallinity, and hence many important properties, is largely controlled by the ratio of D to L enantiomers used. Higher the D, lower the crystalinity.

b. Biodegradation of PDLA is faster than for PLLA due to the higher crystallinity of PLLA. Hence, PDLA will degrade faster. But PLLA will release drug faster due to it's structured crystalline structure.

An electronics plant’s production function is Q = L 2K, where Q is its output rate, L is the amount of labour it uses per period, and K is the amount of capital it uses per period. (a) Calculate the marginal product of labour (MPL) and the marginal product of capital (MPK) for this production function. Hint: MPK = dQ/dK. When taking the derivative with respect to K, treat L as constant. For example when Q = L 3K2 ,...

Revisiting the ballistic pendulum. In lab we used both conservation of momentum and conservation of energy to relate the launch speed of a projectile to the maximum height of the swing of a pendulum. Here we will study the parts of this problem in a bit more detail. (a) Briefly explain why momentum is conserved during the collision of the projectile and the pendulum, but mechanical energy is not conserved. (b) Briefly explain why mechanical energy (kinetic plus potential energy)...
