when a person drinks 1L of water, what will happen to the urine formation?

Answer #1

For every litre that goes in, a litre comes out. Any imbalance of water coming in and leaving the body creates an osmotic imbalance that will adversely affect the cell and tissue function. Osmotic balance ensures that optimal concentrations of electrolytes and non electrolytes are maintained in cells, body tissues and in interstitial fluid.

Urine formation depends upon Glomerular filtration, Tubular reabsorption and Tubular secretion.

Urine excretion rate = Filtration rate - Reabsorption rate + Secretion rate.

If a person drinks a large amount of water very quickly, it is possible to exceed the rate of water removal by the kidney (~1 L/hour), essentially diluting the blood. The resulting osmotic pressure causes cells to swell. Fat and muscle cells have a capacity to adjust to this change in volume, but neurons in the brain do not have room to accommodate this size increase. (The skull is so densely packed, there is no room for swelling!) Consequently, as...
