Phytochromocytomas are basically a endocrine tumors which produces certain chemicals i.e. catecholamines produced by the endocrine cells, through this tumors takes place. Diagnosis of phytochromocytomas requires several tests. this can be achieved by measurements of catecholamies in urine and plasma as well.

Catecholamine Synthesis : Phenylalanine in the presence of phenylalanine hydroxylase tyrosine form. which further in the presence tyrosine hydroxylase enzyme dihydroxyphenylalanine (DOPA) then in the presence of AADC (aromatic amino acid decarboxylase) dopamine will takes place which further in the presence of DBH(dopamine beta hydroxylase) norepinephrine formed and finally with the help of phenylethanolamine-n-methyl transferase (PNMT) epinephrine takes place.
