Describe the sequence of events beginning with vessel damage and ending with a platelet plug.
Hemostasis is the cascade of reaction resulting in formation of clot therapy prevent bleeding.
There are three steps of Hemostasis :
- Vascular spasm
- formation of platelet plug
- blood clotting or Coagulation
1) Vascular spasm:
- First stage in Hemostasis
- Involves the vasoconstriction
- It begins with Endothelial injury that causes platelet adherence
and their activation.
2) Platelet plug formation :
- The second stage in Hemostasis
- Involves Endothelial collagen exposure
- Involves degranulation and Serotonin thrombaxane A2 And
ADP.
- platelet activation and platelet aggregation occurs
- primary platelet plug seals the site of leakage.
3) Coagulation :
- The last stage in Hemostasis
- Includes intrinsic and extrinsic mechanisms
- Involves the disruption of prostacyclins
- Also known as clotting
- Involves the conversion of fibrinogen into fibrins
