Answer #1

Answer

Formation of a platelet plug in a broken blood vessel is a positive feedback.

  • An injury in the blood vessel endothelium exposes the underlying collagen fibers.
  • Platelets are the blood cells responsible for blood clotting.
  • Platetes traveling thorugh the site if injury, adhere to the collagen fibers of broken blood vessel.
  • These platelets release ceratin chemicals such as adenosine diphosphate (ADP) and thromboxane.
  • ADP attracts more platets to clump over them and for a platete plug to stop the bleeding.

Positive feedback mechanism involves a response that amplify the original stimuli.

- As chemical released from the platetes attracted more platetes to skick together, this process is a positive feddback mechanism.

1.When you start to exercise, your muscles need more oxygen. Your body has chemoreceptors that detect the need for more oxygen and accelerate the respiration rate and the cardiovascular output. So both breathing and hear rate increase as your exercise intensity increase. This is an example of: positive or negative feedback? 2. When a capillary is damaged, a platelet plug is formed. Prothrombin is a clotting factor that is normally present in the bloodstream. When a blood vessel is cut, prothrombin in the damaged area becomes activated and is converted to thrombin. Thrombin is an enzyme that acts to (1) promote the formation of fibrin fibers that begin to form a blood clot, and (2) convert additional prothrombin to thrombin. Consider two variables: A and B. True or False: A positive feedback loop arises when A increases B, and B increases A. True False Consider the following scenario: When Sharon accidentally cuts her hand, blood platelets attach to the damaged tissue. As the blood platelets cling to the open wound and begin to form a clot, they release chemicals that attract more platelets to the wound, which in turn release more of these chemicals until the clot has covered the...

You are examining bloodflow in a blood vessel using Doppler sonography. Original frequency of ultrasound emitted by the device is 2.50 MHz. After mixing the incoming frequency reflected from a bloodstream in the blood vessel with the original frequency of the device, the device produces a beat frequency of 974 Hz. You are asked to calculate the diameter of the blood vessel if the volumetric flow rate of the blood stream in the blood vessel is measured to be 5×10-6m3/s....
