Anterior knee pain occurs in front of the knee.

The calf muscle , on the back of the lower leg is made up of two muscles -

  1. Gastrocnemius - Larger calf muscle, has 2 heads which together create its diamond shape .
  2. Soleus - smaller calf muscle , lies underneath gastrocnemius .

In case of tight calves , especially the soleus the sequence of events is as follows-

  • Tight calf muscle (soleus)
  • Overpronation of foot
  • Causes knee to turn inwards
  • Anterior knee pain .

DIAGNOSIS - Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome also known as Jumpers knee .
