The liver is the largest gland and is extremely active organ of
the body. The body's total metabolism processes are done in the
liver, and also involved in most of the important actions in the
body. Hence it is a very important organ of the body. The functions
of liver are:
- The carbohydrate, fat and protein metabolism is done in liver.
Hence it is the source of energy
- It causes the braekdown of RBC and the kupffer cells are
involved in the defence against microbes.
- It does the detoxification of drugs and noxious
substances.
- It is involved in the inactivation of hormones, production of
heat, and secretion of bile.
- It is involved in the synthesis of vit A from carotene.
- It is also involved in the storage of substances like: fat
soluble vitamins, iron, copper, vit B12 .
