How and why is glomerular filtration rate affected by

a marathon run?

severing the post-glanglionic sympathetic fibers to the kidney?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

During the marathon or exercise there is greater requirement of oxygen to skeletal tissues. To fulfil the oxygen requirement blood supply needs to be increased, which is established by activating the post ganglionic Fibres of sympathetic system.symapthetic fibres stimulates the secretion of renin from the Juxtaglomerular cells of kidney. Renin activates the Renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system and increases water reabsorption the blood pressure in the arterioles of glomerular apparatus, which increase the Glomerular hydrostatic pressure and leading to increase in Glomerular filtration rate.
