There are two autoregulatory mechanism for regulating glomerular filtration rate -the myogenic mechanism and the tubuloglomerular feedback mechanism.
Arteriole myogenic mechanism works in the afferent arteriole. When the blood pressure increases, the smooth muscle cell in the arteriole stretch and respond by contracting to resist the pressure which result in a little change in flow whereas when blood pressure drops the smooth muscle cells relax to lower resistance.
Tubuloglomerular feedback mechanism is an adaptive mechanism. It links the glomerular filtration rate with the salt concentration in the tubule of macula densa. High salt and reabsorption rate at macula densa causes contraction of afferent arteriole and reduction of glomerular filtration rate.
