Which of the following would increase the glomerular filtration rate?

1. dilation of the efferent arteriole

2. constriction of the afferent arteriole

3. decreased renin production

4. increased glomerular osmotic pressure

5. decreased glomerular hydrostatic pressure

Homework Answers

Answer #1

None of the options were correct

Please recheck if any of the options have typing error. I ll explain each option why it is not correct.

Dilation of the efferent arteriole and constriction of the afferent arteriole would decrease the intraglamerular pressure and will decrease the GFR ( opposite effect will cause increase in GFR)

Decreased renin will decrease the GFR (renin causes increased production of angiotensin II and this will increase the GFR).

According to starling forces which act at the level of glomerulus , increase in glomerular osmotic pressure and decrease in glomerular hydrostatic pressure will decrease the GFR (opposite effect will cause increase in the GFR)

Hope this helps... Thank you!!!

The net filtration pressure in Bob’s kidneys was 11 mm Hg, but it changed because hydrostatic pressure in the glomerulus increased by 3 mm Hg, while the colloid osmotic pressure in the glomerulus decreased by 1 mm Hg. As a result of these alterations, Bob’s net filtration pressure ________ by _________. Choose the best answer: (a) increased; 3 mm Hg (b) increased; 4 mm Hg (c) decreased; 4 mm Hg (d) increased; 2 mm Hg (e) decreased; 2 mm Hg
