Why is it significant to define the research population before starting research?

Research population is the collection of individuals or objects which is the main focus for any research.The research population is the subset or part of the target population for which research is conducted.Due to following reasons it is significant to define the research population before starting research :-

i) Research population provides clear direction on the scope of the research and it's objectives.

ii) It defines the characteristics variables of the population who are the part of the research population.

iii) It also provides the scope of the total population in order to determine the sample size for the research.
