(True, False) 6. Self-organizational-map (SOM) is a special case of Multi-Dimensional-Scaling (MDS) in a two-dimensional grid map.

Answer #1

Self-organizationalmaps (SOM) and multidimensional scaling(MDS) method are methods used to reduce the dimensionality of the input data and visualize the pattern of multidimensional data by means of projection. SOM method is an unsupervised method which uses the artificial neural-network to project the high dimensional data on a lower dimension specially on a 2D space or grid map. Both methods tend to reduce the dimensionality of the data and try to reduce the hidden pattern into it. while the two methods differ in their strategy followed o rducee the dimensionality. The SOM tries to preserve local neighborhood relations and MDS the interpoint distances between samples.

Hence the given statement that Self-organizationalmaps (SOM) is special case of MDS in two dimensional grid map, is False.
