Estimate: On a typical day, how many times in the world is the English word "Hello" spoken?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

On a typical day, we have to find the estimate of the number of times the word "Hello" is spoken.

First, we list the names of all countries. Then, according to the English speaking population of the countries, we pay weightage to them.

Then, we choose one country where most people speak English. We record the number of times an English speaking person uses "Hello" on a typical day. We then multiply it by the number of English speaking people in the country, and thus get the estimate for the country.

We convert this value for all countries, using their weightages, and thus find the estimates for all.

Finally, we add them and get the final estimate.
