Majority of married couples develop a shared an implicit understanding of who carries out what responsibility in their relationship. Although there is a division of labor in human affairs based on traditional gender expectations, differences exist with respect to what extent an individual adopts then. In fact, whether or not individuals adopt these traditional roles depend, to a large extent on how they were socialised during their primary developmental years. A psychological perspective on this issue would perhaps focus on how environmental factors relating to gender during childhood impacts the adoption of traditional gender roles during later years, in the context of marriage.
