Have you ever had one of those mornings...the mornings when you wake up and think to yourself..."What was THAT dream about!?!"
Often times dreams can mean different things to different
people. If you ask a biologist, they may say it has to do with
simple neuronal activity. If you ask a Freudian, they may say that
it represents a glimpse of your unconscious.
So...what do you think?
For this post
1). Talk about your opinion. What do you think dreams are all about? Include an example (one that is appropriate, of course!!)
2). Summarize a theory that seems to best fit with your opinions. What aspects of this theory seem to best fit with your thoughts?
1. In my view, dreams allow us access to our unconscious mind, the repository of repressed memories and conflicts. I do not support the biological model that suggests simple neurological activity as the basis of dreaming as dreams can be extremely rich and complex. A dream I clearly recall is when I was strangling an infant to death without any reason. Much later, I realised that this symbolised me killing my “inner child” as that was a part of my life that demanded strict discipline and responsibilities.
2. Freud's theory of dreams suggested that dreams represented unconscious desires, thoughts, and motivations. Dreams serves as a gateway to the unconscious. Furthermore, dreams can be though of as attempts by the unconscious to resolve some repressed conflict.
