The reasoning of the standard, religious conservative argument against abortion includes the rationale that the embryo or fetus has the right to gestate to term and be born. Further, according to Singer, human personhood begins immediately after birth or a bit later and thus has the right to live.

The counter-argument that be offered against that argument include the fact that women should be given a choice to decide what they have to do with their body. Under certain medical conditions, for example, a fetus having abnormality abortion is justified.
