a. In lab, your group used something called “de-ionized” water to find the density of water. Explain what de-ionized water is and why your group did not use tap water instead.
b. Would you expect the density of tap water to be higher, lower or the same at the density of deionized water? Explain your answer.
Choose ( Higher , lower or the same)
a)Deionized water is produced by deionization process .
Water is passed through mixed ion exchange bed so all the cations are replaced by H+ and anions get replaced by OH- .
H+ and OH - will combilne to form H2O.
So there are no free ions in deionized water.
It is reactive and has pH = 7
b) In tap water there are ions dissolved in it this cause higher mass per unit volume or higher density but in deionized water no ions exist. So deionized water will have less density.
