name and describe the stages that a neuron goes through when firing eletrically (within the neuron, not between neurons. Think individual neuron activation)
One of the most complex and
important organs in our body is neurons but the surprising element
is that it's only a tenth size of the diameter of the human hair.
The neuron has three important elements, the cell body is located
at the center of the neuron and contains nucleus that carries the
genetic materials, the dendrites that are tiny branches and the
axon that carries synapses. Both the cell body and the axon are
supported by microtubules that is basically a protein.
Dendrites receive the electric impulse and passed on to the cell
body which then sends it to axons. When the electric impulse
reaches the end of the axons at the synapses, the neuron fires a
chemical called neurotransmitter which releases a new wave of
impulse to the near by neuron.
