Religion has been identified as the key element that is responsible in binding people together. One of the evidences is that , despite the numerous conflicts caused by religion, it has been surviving way more than any other culture. Third cements, drives social connection and this, in turn, helps the growth of the societies. It is the religion that creates a sense of family within the people and the sense that it is immoral to intentionally or unintentionally hurt other humans.
One of the professors in oxford, Dunbar, dgstrd that the fact that human beings are social and that are more intelligent than other animals, is the key that religion binds us all together. Dunbar’s research had been conducted many years ago, on the social network size of the animals. His research states that all the primate species are able to keep up social bonds for a limited number of species, and this number increases as the size of the primate brain increases. This research showed that humans are able to maintain such high number of social ties because of the size of the brain, and this number is referred to as the ‘Dunbar’s number’. According to Dunbar, such high numbers are as a result of religion, which benefits civilisation rather then ignorance.
