Basic research is done purely on the basis of variables that are considered which are used to design something depending on their characterstics. Where as Practical problem solving is very much different from Research as it is directly applied to the world.
In practical problem solving the variables may not be same as expected as it varies depending on so many factors which are not considered during research.
Basic reserch is an assumption of getting applied it to practical world where as direct research is directly applied to practical world. So if there is any miscalculation in basic research it will always have direct effect on real world.
