(Answer) Let us assume that John Doe worked at a large multinational corporation for about 3 years after his graduation. He was a part of one of those teams that worked like cogs in a machine. The chairman of the company probably didn’t even know their names, no body’s birthday was ever celebrated in the break room and there was never any office picnic aside from occasional field visits that were entirely professional.
John then changes his job and now works as a digital marketer for a company that manages several charity organisations, including their in-house charity organisation that helps ailing children.
The positive work role behaviours: John feels that his contribution is not just like that of a part in a machine but rather like that of a contribution to a greater cause. This positive work role motivates him to work better.
The team motivation model: Since this is a mid-sized company, everybody knows everybody. There is a sense of familiarity and camaraderie. Furthermore, John is quite comfortable with the members of his team who help each other grow with their professional skills. They motivate each other to do better work.
The employee positive effects display model: John earns a little less in this new company as compared to the previous multinational company. However, John feels good about his contributions to a good cause and he is happy with his friendly colleagues. The positive work environment and encouraging atmosphere helps John put in more of an effort and produce better work as a result.
The job characteristics model of work motivation: Whenever John gets to know more about the people who benefit from the charity organisations that they work with, he feels motivated to work harder. He loves his job, he loves interacting with clients and coming up with good marketing ideas to help these charity organisations. All of these attributes help John have a happy work life and a peaceful personal life as well.
