what was manumission in the roman slave system; why would it have no applicability in in india's caste system?
An act of freeing slaves by the owners of slave in ancient Rome is Manumission. The Roman slavery system permitted freeing of slaves under certain conditions or at the will of the masters as an act of benevolence. However, the freed slaves was considered as a Roman citizens were not given all the rights of natural citizens. The freed slaves still had obligations to their masters.
Manumission would have no applicability in Indian caste system as caste system of India was rigid and solid.A person born in a specific caste was required to remain in that caste there till death, however,he can move within the boundaries of his caste on the economic background but not out of the caste. It had no provision to move out of the specific caste decided by birth under any circumstance as that in Roman Slavery system.
