Interpreting the european past 102H:
2) The political system of the Roman Republic was designed specifically to avoid the concentration of power in the hands of a single individual. The Romans had crafted a constitution intended to ensure the distribution of power among individuals and representative bodies. Yet, by the 1st century AD, Rome was an Empire ruled by a single individual. After describing the political system of the Roman Republic, identify and explain at least 3 reasons why this shift from Republic to Empire occurred. To what extent did the flaws inherent in the political, economic and social system post shift from Republic to Empire make the eventual decline of Rome in the 5th century AD inevitable?
The main reason for the shift from republic to roman Empire is that the Dictatorship is probably the most efficient form of ruling at that time.
The senate of Rome mainly starting with Julius Caesar had become a very divided group in the senate and there were many factions vying for the power the Sloan change to dictatorship is was really the triumvirate Sam set up by the Caesar and his cronies.
Also the Roman people had dislike for years for the idea of ever having a King, however when the republic turned into dictatorship which was done under a emperor it had been almost 500 years since a king had ruled Rome so it was long forgotten and those prejudices were basically ancient history to Romans and this helped to turn from republic to dictatorship.
