Please define and explain the term "Sanhedrin"
Sanhedrin means assembly or setting together in the ancient land of Israel, after the destruction of the second temple. The group is called rabbis and it consists of either 23 or 71 elders and it was basically a tribunal that acted such as the Supreme Court in the land. The number depends on whether it’s a Greater Sanhedrin or Lesser Sanhedrin. Nasi is the head of the tribunal while Av Beit Din is the second in power and the other members are called Mulfa.
