The following techniques can be used to build suspense with
music:
- Instruments: String instruments are some of the most widely
used instruments in horror films. Other traditional instruments,
like the synthesizer, are also very common in horror. However, as
the genre changes, so should the popular instruments used to create
those sounds,
- Tempo: The tempo or speed of the music in film score can
produce plenty of heart-racing moments. The more scared one is, the
faster one's heart beats.
- Crescendo: When the scene begins to reach its apex, one can add
a crescendo, gradually increasing the intensity and loudness of the
music until the climax.
