discuss the etiology of AUD from biopsychosocial perspective
AUD stands for Alcohol Use Disorder. This is a pattern of using alcohol in which people have difficulty controlling their drinking, having proccupying thoughts about drinking, being tolrent to certain amount of alcohol which leads them to drink more amount of alcohol to get the same effect. Such people keep drinking alcohol even if it causes them problems. This also leads to withdrawal symptoms such as nausea, shaking and sweating, when the use of alcohol is decreased or stopped. Like most disorders it can range from mild to severe.
Let us see the symptoms and effects of AUD from biopsychosocial perspective. Biologically overuse of alcohol caused by AUD can lead to lever damage and over all chemical functioning ,psychologically it leads to being preoccupied with the thoughts of alcohol drinking, not being able to cut down on alcohol even after wanting to, having a sense of failing which can socially result in giving up or reducing social and work activities which can result in failing to fulfill major obligations on work, school or home due to repeated alcohol use.
Now let us discuss the causes of AUD in biopsychosocial perspective. It is a chronic ilness with a multifactorial etiology combining several components, genetic as well as social, psychological and environmental. Studies and research theories suggest that some people are more strongly impacted by alcohol than others, which can lead to AUD. Repeated use of alcohol can change the functionally of part of the brain associated with pleasure, judgement and control over behavior which can again lead to AUD. People having psychological illnesses such as depression, anxity etc or prople having traumatic experiences are also more prone to AUD as alcohol use stimulates brain's part dealing with pleasure, reducing the symptoms of these disorders momentarily, providing a momentry escape and with repeated use it ultimately results in AUD. People who have family members who are affected by AUD or general alcohol use are also considered vulnerable to AUD as it becomes easy for them to get influenced very easily and it can also contrbute to genetic factors. There are social influences too such as portrayal of alcohol use to be glamourus and those media which states drinking more often is okey generates risk of people falling for alcohol use and get AUD.
