The electrolysis of water is the decomposition of water into Hydrogen and Oxygen through the passsage of current through water.
During electrolysis of water, the electrons cause an redox reaction. At one electode (Cathode), electrons pass into the solution and cause the reduction of water into Hydrogen gas and Hydroxide ions. At other electrode (Anode), the electrons are released by the oxidation of water into the Oxygen gas, thus releasiing the electrons. It is an endothermic reaction and is completed with the help of external cell.
