The causes of clinical depression include;

Brain chemistry changes in the functioning of the neurotransmitters and how they interact with neurocircuits.

Hormones changes in the hormonal balance.

Inherited traits as there is a genetic predisposition as certain depression have a genetic basis.

Treatment includes medications that are primarily antidepressants like; Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), Serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs), Tricyclic antidepressants and Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs). Psychotherapy is also effective for most people with depression.
