When I was working for an IT giant in India, I had a team member who never took work seriously. He was working on a crucial project and the clients were relying on him for the project delivery. From the beginning of the project, he was never on time to all the meetings and sometimes he missed few meetings as well. He knew the importance of the project for both the company as well as the client. This was very unusual behavior because the management of the company will keep a close watch on the person who is working on an important project because they want to make sure that the customer is satisfied. In spite of all this, he chose to neglect it and working whenever he felt like working. He reached a stage where he had no idea of how to proceed with the project and how to complete the project. The management observed this and they gave strict warning to him. He worked for few days properly and again he started ignoring the work. After one month he lost the interest in the project totally and he was not able to make any decision related to the project. He started mixing things from his previous project and this made the client upset. He was then removed from the project and asked to work under a manager as a team member to learn some discipline first. This is very unusual in the IT considering the fact that the people would love to take responsibility to complete a project alone and deliver it successfully.
