The software application that is used for patient education is GURU. GURU is a windows based software application which is interactive software. The application can be customized as per the need requirements. This software is used during the different stages of the patient’s care delivery system. The software has in-built images and animations that can be used for patient education. It also enables the clinicians to import and export data to the physician’s database. Images can be customized and saved as and when required. There are four main sections in this application:

1. GURU Dental – this section is used to explain the student the dental conditions and treatment required for the condition. The videos in this section are silent without any audio.
2. GURU Insights – This section too is similar to the GURU Dental section. However, the difference is that the videos have audio.
3. GURU Jr. – This section is especially designed for the kids and toddlers. This section has cartoon videos and online coloring books. This section also contains videos of the conditions of the patients and the treatment required for it.
4. GURU Tutorial- this section demonstrates how to use the application GURU.

Like other customer based software, there is a login page for patients to sign-in to the page. However, this software does not have a password which poses a high risk to security and privacy. GURU software is highly easy and user-friendly for beginners as well. The screen layout can be customized as preferred by the user. This is possible by moving the ‘Viewing’ pane on either side of the screen. Pictures and animations are similar to the ‘Paint’ in the Windows as it also contains pen, color palette, eraser tool, and other drawing tools.

Thus, GURU is a very user-friendly patient education tool as it helps to demonstrate the dental problems and the treatment required for those conditions.
