Activity 3

3-What things might occur to change the linear progression of a team’s development? Give at least three examples.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Three things that might change the linear progression of team development are as follows:

1. A team that has been undergone forming, storming, norming stages successfully and operating at the performing stage may experience change in the linear progression of team development due to lose/gain of a team member. It takes them back to the norming stages.

2. External factors may affect the organisation’s objective, e.g. legislative requirements, change in top management etc. In this situation, teams also have to reconsider their operations and may shift the team development stage to appropriate phase.

3. Sometimes top management keeps suppressing the team development from getting through the storming phase. They take decisions, by company culture or personally, and always steps into which restricts team to smoothing things over conflicts within team.
