Does protection the public outweigh maintaining a patient's medical record privacy and confidentiality? Why or why not?
No. If it comes to the question of greater good, there is no other priority. But since the patient's privacy is his/ her right, the law ensures that only the relevant information is discussed and very few people has access to it. So, if a criminal is a patient or used to be one and his/her medical record such as finger print or something else is required for a case against him/her, the court mandates the hospital to share the data with it. This is done because, if a guilty can be brought to justice through these records, it can save lives of many innocent individuals and the prime responsibility of the court is to save innocent while punishing the criminal. This prime responsibility takes over every other rules/ regulations/ rights.
