What qualities are you/would you seek in a Board member? Explain why
Answer:-
Board members are the elected or appointed members that collectively manage business activities. They help the organization to remain focused on their vision and goals. There are various qualities of board members that are important for the success of the organization.
The five main qualities that I would look for in a board member are:-
1. Passion:- Passion shows a deep interest in the individual's missions and goals. If a person does not care about the mission of the organization then their value is low. The board members have to bring passion to the organization as a passionate person commits time, energy, and brings the organization a certain amount of energy with the ability to motivate everyone. So, I would look for someone who was deeply emotionally involved with their mission in the past.
2. Leadership skills:- A good leader is one who understands how talent can be developed to maximize the business. A board member must have good leadership skills with the ability to set direction in order to achieve the mission of the organization.
3. Relevant experience:- A person can be a great board member even though not from the same industry however it helps best if they have considerable relevant experience since the board member will govern the whole organization so if they have enough experience they can make smart decisions which can be convincing to others as well.
4. Creative problem solver:- The person should be an innovative and creative thinker, because no matter how successful the product is but they should come up with a new product, otherwise the competitor will do it and overtake the market. The board member should have a creative mind and come up with new innovative ideas that will help the growth of the company to a new level.
5. Great judgement:- A board member should be able to make a great judgement that keep the company away from troubles and help to manage difficult situations. They also help to make the right decisions about strategy, hiring, firing, financing, legal issues, etc. If a board member is not able to make a good judgment then the company and the shareholders will be in serious trouble.
