Vaccination is basically the process of administering a vaccine in the body to stimulate the immune system and to develop resistance to the specific pathogen. Vaccine is an antigenic material, which is used to trigger the immune system. Some examples of vaccine are zoster, MMR, yellow fever, polio, etc. Usually babies are given vaccination to build their immunity system and to protect them from any kind of virus.

Though the objective of vaccination is quite clear- to stimulate and trigger the immune system and prepare it to face any pathogen, there are various myths due to which some sects of people get involved in the anti-vaccination movements. These anti-vaccination movements have been in the society from the time, vaccination was introduced in the 1800s. People who get involved in such anti-vaccination movements are against the use of vaccine, a foreign substance in body. They often get emotive and divisive and react strongly against the process of vaccination.

Some of the popular myths related to vaccination are:

• Vaccination causes deadly diseases like autism
• The liberal sect is against the use of vaccination due to their own skepticism and inhibitions
• Vaccinations can be dangerous as they have live viruses which gets injected in the body
• There is no surety about the effectiveness of vaccination
• Adults do not need any kind of vaccination
• Vaccination affects the immunization levels of the body

The anti-vaccination reformists need to understand the vitality of vaccination. They need to remember that it was due to vaccination, that the world was able to fight and eradicate smallpox. Healthcare providers as well as Government must aim at creating awareness about the importance and effectiveness of vaccination.
