The age group from 13 years to 19 years are known as the teenagers or adolescents. Teenage pregnacies are increasing in number now a days. many studies have shown that teen age pregnancies are more common in 15 to 19 years of age.

The teens are not psychologicaly strong as adults, so they may face many mental problems during pregnancy like depression and extreme stress. If the teen has choos to give birth to the baby, there are also many complications like , the chances of preterm birth and low birth weight are higher in teenage pregnancy. Also there is a chance of infant death. Many studies have shown that chances of getting high blood pressure is higher in teenagers. The pelvis of the teenagers are comparitively small and there are chances of difficult labour. And also there is chances of getting anemia is higher in teenage pregnancy.
Teen age pregnancies will also endup in financial crisis. Because of the pregnancy and the social stigma the teenagers will be forced to stop their education and most of them fill fail to find a decent job and it will lead many financial problems.
ANTINATAL CARE
Teenagers can also have healthy babies if they give more importance to health and receive adequate antinatal care a guidaces from a specialist. The teen mother should maintain good health and well-being. Should maintain a healthy diet and exercise. The teen should be well educated about the nutritional needs of pregnancy and the antinatal care. If the teen have any habits like smoking alcoholism or substance abuse, she should be counceled about the effects of these on babies and should be advised to quit these habits. The teen should attend the antinatal clinic on a regular basis and should consult the obstretician for the monthly followup and checkups.
